Often, we wonder which major title will inspire collections for Autumn/Winter 2025. Stranger Things appears ready to take centre stage. In 2022, sales skyrocketed with the release of the fourth season, driven in part by Netflix’s massive marketing efforts. The fifth and final season, currently in production, is shaping up to be a global event, and Netflix is sure to seize this opportunity. With a history spanning nearly a decade, each new season of the series becomes a cultural phenomenon, captivating millions of fans, amplified by social media and an ever-expanding range of merchandise. More than just a TV show, Stranger Things has become a pop culture symbol, redefining collective imagination with its perfect blend of 80s nostalgia. This phenomenon is comparable to the Harry Potter saga, further enhanced by the recent Barbie film’s glamorous effect. This balance between nostalgia and modernity has forged a deep connection with audiences, bridging generational gaps. While the series has a broad core adult audience (18-50 years old), it also resonates with teenagers, who are drawn to the relatable protagonists and universal themes of friendship and courage. In fashion, the Hawkins College graphics are perfect for a Varsity collection. Alongside band t-shirts, collections inspired by the rock world of the Hellfire Club can be developed, while the horror imagery of the Demogorgon are ideal for Halloween. Additional creative sparks come from the surfer vibe of Surfer Boy Pizza and the retro vintage style of Scoops Ahoy. The series has revitalised iconic brands featured within it, such as Dungeons & Dragons and Back to the Future. Coca-Cola, omnipresent with its classic cans and vintage advertisements, even brought back New Coke, a rebranded version of the drink that flopped in the 80s turning it into a brilliant, nostalgia-driven marketing success during season three. Each season has set trends in both fashion and lifestyle, making Hawkins, Indiana, feel familiar even to those who have never been to the US. Nike released a themed sneaker collection inspired by Hawkins High School, while retailers like H&M and Zara incorporated series-inspired details into their collections. Among the most recent collaborations, Pandora launched a stylish jewellery line, and Clarks introduced a children’s capsule collection inspired by the Upside Down, showcasing the series’ broad appeal, spanning from kids to adults. Netflix has already announced exciting plans for the future, transforming the series into a full-fledged franchise. Spin-offs, animated series, and immersive experiences will join the already popular pop-up stores. In short, Stranger Things is a cultural juggernaut that shows no signs of slowing down.
